Situated across from Humboldt Park, 1237 N. California Avenue provides 40 units of 100 percent affordable housing in a six-story, 57,700-square-foot building.
Its accordion-like masonry façade reinterprets the traditional Chicago bay, creating depth, framed views, and a sheltered corner entrance highlighted by integrated lighting. Varied brick bonding techniques respond to changing façade conditions, while integrated public art reinforces the project’s cultural connection to Humboldt Park’s Puerto Rican community.
