Hemmens Cultural Center North Addition
Cordogan Clark · Elgin, IL
Overview
The new addition and renovation of the Hemmens Cultural Center brings new life to an important midcentury-modern civic landmark while preserving the architectural clarity of the original building.
The project demonstrates how a significant midcentury civic building can evolve without losing the qualities that made it important. By combining preservation with carefully considered contemporary intervention, it improves accessibility and functionality, and welcomes a new generation of performers, patrons, and citizens to an established community landmark.
