Find a licensed architect for your project.

Firms in this opt-in directory are run by ALA members across the country, from solo residential practices to large firms. Before you hire, check the architect's license with the board in the state where you will build.

Check an architect's license before you hire

Every state keeps a public license lookup. Search the state where the project is built, with the architect's name or license number, and confirm that the license is active and in good standing and that the name and firm match the person you are hiring. A state board can also tell you whether any discipline is on record. Only a licensed architect may use the title architect, and the state board is the authority on who is licensed.

Planning a budget first? Try the architect cost calculator, or read which contract you need before you hire.
