Refunds and Cancellations

Effective October 10, 2026.

This page covers everything you can pay for on the ALA website and member system: membership dues, Studio plans, events, contract documents, and Industry Partner fees.

Membership dues

  • Dues you paid by invoice, by check, or by card yourself are refundable in full if you ask within 30 days of payment. After 30 days, dues are not refundable.
  • If you chose the wrong membership type, ALA moves you to the right one and refunds or bills the difference.

Automatic renewal

  • Dues paid by card while you are signed in to the member site renew automatically each year on that card. This is stated beside the pay button and on your receipt.
  • You can turn automatic renewal off at any time on your membership page. Your membership then runs to its end date and stops.
  • Dues paid by invoice, by check, or by card from an emailed payment link without signing in do not renew automatically. Asking for an invoice also turns automatic renewal off for that renewal.
  • ALA emails you the amount and the date before any charge.
  • A renewal that was charged automatically is refundable in full if you ask within 14 days of the charge. This 14 day window applies to automatic charges instead of the 30 days above. Studio plan seats follow the Studio plans terms below.

Studio plans for firms

  • A seat is not refundable once it is added to the plan.
  • A seat can be moved to another person at the firm at no charge. The plan manager does this on the firm's plan page.

Events

  • You receive a full refund if you cancel at least 7 days before the event.
  • Inside 7 days there is no refund, and you may send someone in your place. Tell ALA the person's name and email so the certificate goes to the right person.
  • If ALA cancels an event, you are refunded in full.

Contract documents

  • Contract documents are digital files. Once a file has been downloaded it is not refundable.
  • If a file is faulty, or you were charged twice, ALA refunds you.

Industry Partner program

  • Partner fees are refundable in full if you ask within 30 days of payment and before your first placement, course or event has run.
  • After that, partner fees are not refundable.
  • An add-on you bought, such as a conference tabletop, follows the same rule on its own date.
  • If ALA cancels an event or placement you paid for, that part is refunded in full.

How to ask

Email ALA@licensedarchitect.org or call 847-382-0630 with your receipt or invoice number. Refunds go back to the card or account used to pay. A card refund usually shows on your statement within 5 to 10 business days.
